BBL designed this 225,000 sf facility to accommodate both people and their best friends (animals) into a convenient and sensible learning corporate environment. A large and open atrium serves as the entrance, leading to a two-story public core flanked by offices, classrooms and clinic learning environments with 6 full-scale mock-up Veterinary Lab Rooms attached for Student Instruction. An important design intent was to support the health of both animals and their owners. Therefore, it included a 500 sf Physical Fitness Center and an 1.8 acre urban dog park. Outside the entrance of the park is an enclosed dog washing facility where owners can easily groom their pets after a little fun and exercise in the park. An underground parking garage with direct building access was incorporated to accommodate the dog park and minimize the impacts of urban development.
This complex was designed to meet LEED silver standards, but was not formally submitted for certification.
